NTA declares final results of controversial NEET-UG 2024

1,943 qualified from Nagaland

Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The National Testing Agency on Friday announced the final results of the controversy-ridden medical entrance exam NEET-UG, officials said. The results were declared following a directive from the Supreme Court after considering the marks of a physics question, which the NTA had acknowledged had two correct answers.

In Nagaland, out of 3,668 registered candidates, 3,479 appeared for the exam, and 1,943 qualified. Naveen Kumar emerged as the state topper, securing a NEET rank of 9,550. This year, Nagaland's candidates showed commendable performance despite the nationwide controversy surrounding the exam.

"The re-revised score cards are live now," a senior NTA official said. Initially, 44 out of the 67 candidates who were declared toppers had scored full marks due to the physics question. However, the number of toppers was later reduced to 61 after the agency withdrew grace marks awarded to six candidates to compensate for the loss of time at a few exam centers.

In a significant setback to unsuccessful aspirants of NEET-UG 2024, the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed pleas seeking cancellation and re-test of the exam, holding that there was no evidence on record to conclude that it was "vitiated" due to a "systemic breach" of its sanctity. The verdict provided a boost to the embattled NDA government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which faced strong criticism and protests over alleged large-scale malpractices such as question paper leaks, fraud, and impersonation during the test held on May 5.

The CBI is probing alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2024 and has lodged six FIRs. The NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions.
