Nukhu inaugurates Ura College of Teacher Education

Kohima: Ura College of Teacher Education (UCTE) was inaugurated here on February 20 last by parliamentary secretary for higher education and SCERT Deo Nukhu. This college was undertaken by Ura Academy.

Speaking on the occasion, Nukhu was optimistic that the inauguration of this college would go a long way in increasing the volume of trained teachers in Nagaland. He was appreciative of the Ura Academy for taking up such venture under the presidentship of Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu. Expressing concern over the low percentage of trained teachers in the state, Nukhu stressed on the need to address the untrained teachers with urgency. He also informed that the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) agreed to start Institute of Advance Studies in Education in the state which would offer various courses in B.Ed side by side. Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu in his dedicatory address lauded the pioneers in developing Tenyidie language, adding that base on the foundation they had laid, the nomenclature of the literature committee was changed into Ura Academy in 1971 to broaden the horizon.

The basic objective of Ura Academy is to update the language and to impart training to teachers. Tenyidie seminar was initiated in 1972 and it became an annual feature from there. This platform brings the language teachers together to exchange their views and how to produce teachers and enhance their skills to teach better. Dr. Liezietsu strongly believed that UCTE would produce many trained teachers and bring quality education in the state.

Earlier, Prof. D. Kuolie, secretary general Ura Academy highlighted the background of UCTE. The function was chaired by Vipralhou Kesiezie, chairman Management Board, UCTE while vote of thanks was proposed by Pheluopfhelie Kesiezie, treasurer Ura Academy.
