NWU condemns ‘aggressive defensive posture’ of 42 AR

Senapati, November 25 (MExN): The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has protested against the “aggressive defensive posture of the 42 Assam Rifles in its missive dated 19th November 2021 to the DC Kamjong District and the SP Kamjong District.”

NWU President Asha Wungnam and General Secretary, YK Generous Thangal in a press statement said, “the order states to have its effect in Ukhrul and Kamjong District from 6:00 pm of November 20, 2021. The populaces including women and children in the state have been suffering for decades under the impunity of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.”

The union observed that “this letter is almost a declaration of war and armed offensive against innocent civilians of the areas mentioned.”

While raising concerns on the recent unfortunate civilian deaths and armed ambush in Churachandpur District, NWU added, “It is of great concern that the AR is trying to curtail our democratic freedom of movement and threaten the peaceful situation so far in the district.”

The union has demanded the immediate attention of the Chief Minister and Home Minister of the state to ensure such orders are reviewed, for the safety and security of innocent unarmed citizens including women. ‘We demand for our right to peace and security and an end to armed violence,’ it added.
