
MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 18 (MExN): The office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Mokokchung on Thursday organised an orientation training on leprosy for health workers under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) at the CMO conference hall.
Addressing the health workers, Dr R Toshimenla Jamir said the National Strategic Plan aims to eradicate leprosy by 2027. She stressed that Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) are the backbone of the health system and must coordinate, participate and work with the community in supporting the department.
Jamir also urged ASHAs to promptly report any suspected leprosy cases to community health officers or health workers in their respective health units.
Resource persons spoke on the signs and symptoms of leprosy, diagnosis and treatment, multi-drug therapy, stigma associated with the disease, and the roadmap to achieve the goal of zero leprosy by 2027.
The resource persons for the training were Dr R Toshimenla Jamir, DPO CD-II/NLEP, and Mr Rongsenwati, paramedical worker.
