Kohima, August 23 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland and Assam, Prof Jagadish Mukhi visited Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for an interaction programme with the students and teachers at Yakukie, Kohima on August 23.
According to a PRO Raj Bhavan update, Mukhi in his address said that JNV Kohima has emerged as one of the prestigious schools in the State. It has blossomed into a premier institution, imparting quality education to students, many of whom are from rural areas.
Mukhi pointed out, “our ‘education’ objective should be to excel as duty-conscious and decent citizens of India.” He also urged to “keep our Motherland in mind and the feeling of Nationalism up-front and to strive and contribute to the growth and development of our nation.”
He called upon the students to dream big in life and work hard to achieve the goal as there is no shortcut in learning. ‘Hard work and constant practice makes a man perfect despite of their differences in their IQ,’ he added. He suggested the students to take guidance of parents and teachers in deciding the choices in their career ahead and further advised them to develop the practice of building a strong will power.
He also urged the teachers to give their utmost best, for the growth and welfare of the school and most importantly for nurturing, moulding and upbringing the students, inspite of all the shortcomings.
Principal, JNV, Prem Kumar Singh, presented a brief introduction of the Vidyalaya and highlight that JNV, Kohima is a premier institution of learning with a residential and co-educational set-up in full compliance with the norms and guidelines of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organization under Ministry of Education, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India.
He stressed that the vision of the Vidylaya is to provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education predominantly from rural areas without regard to the socio-economic conditions of their family.
He pointed out that it is the only institution of its kind in the entire district of Kohima. Established in the year 1988 and the Vidyalaya has been scaling the height of excellence in different areas overcoming all odds and challenges. Further, from 1993, the Vidyalaya was upgraded to senior secondary level which has both Science and Humanities Streams.
He said that JNVs emphasizes on ICT, a well-maintained and well-equipped Computer Lab is available with more than 40 computers. The Vidyalaya is also equipped with a Smart Classroom in which teaching-learning transaction is made through ICT aided system and Power-Point presentation facilitated by a well-maintained projector and scrollable screen.
Singh, stressed that Vidyalaya give due importance to art, music and physical education classes also in keeping with NEP and to bring about holistic development of the young learners. Adding to that, they also have vibrant units of Scouts, Guides and NCC under the guidance and supervision of experienced instructors and faculty.
He added that the Vidyalaya has a rich and resourceful library with reference books in different areas of subjects to give enough exposure to the students about the world and keep them abreast with the current affairs.
Earlier, Assistant Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Regional Office, Shillong & Custer In-charge Shillong, Aditya Prakash Singh delivered the welcome address while a cultural show of Angami folk song and dance was presented by the students of JNV. The programme concluded with a short interaction with the students and teachers of JNV.
