Pathso village advocates women empowerment

Noklak, February 5 (MExN): The Pathso village of Noklak district celebrated the 17th foundation day of their cultural club cum Khaozaosei Hokaa with Dr Pritpal Kaur IPS as their special guest on February 4.

Gender equality and women empowerment was a special emphasis of the foundation day with the Village Council Chairman, Pushong, in his opening address, stating that in the past girls/women were not allowed in many arenas, festivals and even Morungs earlier in Khiamniungan culture, however, today time has changed, and women are not only allowed to enter such arenas but are excelling in every field. 

“Today, we celebrate this day with welcoming women to have equal participation everywhere,” said the Council Chairman who also stated that the SP Noklak is a real example of women empowerment and a role model to show that women can achieve any heights. Therefore, he urged parents to send their girl child for good school education and allow them to choose their careers which itself will empower our whole society.

In her speech, Dr Pritpal Kaur, SP Noklak acknowledged that the glass ceiling has been broken today and  congratulated Pathso village for the said initiative. “Women and men are equal and hence deserve equal opportunities in life and future career. Nothing is impossible if we are determined and committed to hard work,” stated Dr Kaur.

Meanwhile, Khumong, President, Cultural Club stated that women empowerment starts from home and hence, they chose their own cultural club day to narrate gender equality, Pathso village took this pioneering women empowerment initiative.

The foundation day witnessed special folk songs and cultural performances. A free medical camp and Covid-19 awareness event was organised by SP Noklak in collaboration with SMO Noklak, Dr Alo and Dr Jongkoi. HIV and AIDS and other medical testing were also conducted by ICTC Noklak along with free provisions of calcium, Iron, multivitamins, other essential medicines and sanitary pads. Awareness talks on various pressing issues such as menstrual, cyber crime were also held.

The programme was chaired by Muteiu, while the invocation was delivered by Pastor, Pathso Baptist church and benediction by the Woman Pastor of Baptist church Pathso.
