Dimapur, November 22 (MExN): Peace Channel organized a capacity building programme at Trinity School, Thahekhu, on November 22 to raise awareness on mental health among the students.
According to updates from the Peace Channel’s Dimapur District Coordinator, resource person Veyito Nyekha stressed on how important it is for the students to be aware of and understand mental health and its implications in personal lives and career development process. He also emphasized on the fact that, with the change of time and 2-year long stretch of pandemic lockdown, young people specially students are facing mental related issues more than any other time. Mentally unhealthy conditions involve anxiety, stress, depression etc. All these become very common psychological disorders among the students when they tried to cope with exam stress, tests and daily tasks, he added.
Citing statistics on mental-disorders, he informed that India is at the top with highest rate of mental disorders and more than half of these cases originate before 15 years of age. ‘We are all a part of this, where we need to be conscious of ourselves and seek help to help resolve our problems before it becomes traumatizing,’ he said. He also encouraged the students to avoid bad habits, schedule daily activities, meditate, engage in physical exercises on daily basis and spend quality time with the teachers and parents so that, they can facilitate and assist them during times of trouble, the release stated.
It also said that, through the club, the students are facilitated to form ‘peer-support-system’ where students are encouraged to share, listen, learn and help one another within the friends circle. Activities on play for peace were also initiated to promote collaboration and friends’ support system, the release stated.
