The launching programme of the year long Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Pfuchatsumia Students' Union (PSU), Kohima village under the theme “Golden past, envisioning a brighter future” took place today at P.Khel Council, Kohima Village.
Speaking at the programme, P.Khel Council chairman Kelhousetuo Rutsa said that the theme suits the contribution of the pioneers who led the Union despite all challenges and making it truly a 'Golden Past'.
Rutsa said the vision of the elders to bring education to the younger generation has brought the Union thus far. He was optimistic that the student community will take the lead in bringing about change in the society.
Rutsa also commended the Union running the "Night School."
Maintaining that many students have been benefitting from this initiative of free tuition, he hoped that the Union will carry forward this programme.
Reminiscing on the past, PSU former president Meguo-o Mechülho said that even though there were not many educated people in the past, PSU was formed by a few individuals to guide and promote the welfare of the students community.
Platinum Jubilee Committee convenor Keneingu Rutsa shared the various activities that will be carried out during the yearlong celebration of the Platinum Jubilee. Special events will be held every month to commemorate the jubilee celebration.
It will start with the commencement of Night School this month , followed by a Leadership Camp in April.
Other events will include Career Guidance, plantation drive on World Environment Day, Literary cum Cultural Day, Variety Show etc. The Yearlong celebration will culminate on October 12, 2024.
Earlier, the jubilee inaugural programme was chaired by PSU president Ruokuovituo Mere.
Baptist Revival Church, Kohima Village, pastor Keneilhoutuo Mere invoked God's blessings while Pfuchazünuo presented a special number.
