Dimapur, September 24 (MExN): As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (September 15 to October 2) under the theme ‘visual cleanliness of villages’, the PHED Dimapur Divisions in collaboration with the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) initiated a shramdaan at the Dimapur Railway Station.
The event saw a great turnout of volunteers who participated in the cleanliness drive that begun at 6:00 am. A short awareness programme was held before the cleanliness drive kicked off. District Co-ordinator, DWSM, PHED (R) Division, Dimapur, Imojungla Longkumer gave a brief highlight about the campaign and thanked the volunteers gathered at the event for voluntarily coming forward for the cleanliness drive.
Chuthuzhuni Chache, AGS, DNSU exhorted the volunteers and the participants at the event to make efforts in keeping public places clean and discouraged littering. She also stressed on the importance of segregating waste at sources to effectively manage waste.
Sorenbeni graced the event with an Invocation prayer. The awareness program was chaired by Matsunginla, Deputy Speaker DNSU and ended with an anti litter pledge which was administered by Michael Kath, Speaker DNSU and vote of thanks given by Er Wati Thompson SDO, Chumukedima, PHED(U) Division. Mass cleanliness drive followed the awareness program. Er Ichirang Zeliang Executive Engineer, Sanitation and WSSO also participated at the cleanliness event.
The campaign Swachhata Hi Seva which translates as ‘cleanliness is service’ is an initiative of the Swachh Bharat Mission and held every year under different themes. The campaign is aimed at generating community participation in achieving complete cleanliness of every village throughout the country and to instill in the minds of the citizens that cleanliness is responsibility of every citizen.
