Pochury community celebrates Yemüshe festival at Meluri

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): Yemüshe festival, the premier cultural celebration of Pochury began with fervor and enthusiasm on October 1 at Meluri. This annual festival marks the joyous welcome of the new harvest, the result of a year's hard labor, and invokes divine blessings for bountiful crops.

Minister of Power & Parliamentary Affairs for Nagaland, G K Kenye graced the occasion as the special guest. Kenye was accompanied by a host of dignitaries, including Dr Neisatuo, MLA, DC Phek, SP Phek, Commandant 5th NAP, SP Shamator, Director of Tourism, and several government officials from Kohima and Phek. Major General Vikas Lakhera, the IGAR (North), along with Commandant 38th A R and other army officers also participated in the festivities.

During the celebration, the rich cultural heritage of Pochury was showcased through captivating folk dances and melodious tunes performed by cultural troupes representing MAPO, KAPO, ARPO, PAPO, and PPO. The day's highlights also included demonstrations of traditional salt-making and pottery techniques, preserving the age-old traditions of the region.

An archery competition was also held where in the honour for the first arrow shot was given to Minister G K Kenye, followed by Advisor, Z Ntusietho Nyuthe and MLA, Dr Neisatuo taking their turns.

With over five thousand people in attendance, the Yemüshe Festival served as a vibrant platform for the Pochury community to come together, celebrate their cultural identity, and express gratitude for a bountiful harvest, a DIPR report stated. The five day celebration will culminate on October 5.
