
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): Dimapur Police have arrested on person accused of threatening and demanding money from a transport agency in Dimapur.
Dimapur Police informed that a complaint was filed with the police on January 31 by proprietors of East India Transport Agency against the Dimapur Goods Transport Union.
One Joshi, who was said to be the manager of the Dimapur Goods Transport Union, was accused of threatening the manager of East India Transport Agency and demanding tax. As per the police, the Dimapur Goods Transport Union “controls the second hand goods transport business.”
The FIR was registered at the East Police Station, Dimapur on February 10. The arrest was made on the same day and the accused is now under police custody. Police added that the case is under further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) has lauded Dimapur Police for the arrest, alleging that the arrested person is the “kingpin for running the transport syndicate in Dimapur.”
A press release from the BAN said that it believes in co-existence of all individuals and welcomes every citizen in building the economy of the state through ethical economic activities, but it will never tolerate any individual, company or organisation that uses coercive means to kill competition.
It appealed to the Police and District administration to have the matter investigated thoroughly and charge sheet all accused under non bailable offences.
The BAN also lauded the courage of two Naga women entrepreneurs for filing the FIR. “This is a struggle for all business community against the syndicate menace prevailing in our State that needs to be eradicated from its root irrespective of any affiliation. The terrorizing of price gouging, illegal taxation, quality compromises, Inflation, restricting choice of consumers has led to sky rocketing of all prices which adversely affect the consumers and economy of the State,” it added.
The association pointed out that there are lakhs of unemployed Naga youth who are desperately looking for a job or contemplating to start their own businesses. It said that Nagas are slowly opening their eyes to the economy and “will never allow some vested interest people to use coercion and impose monopoly to finish the budding Naga businesses while systematically crippling the Naga entrepreneurs.”
The BAN demanded that any organisation or individual involved in forcible collections and coercion be booked and their licence cancelled.
