Poor infrastructure, lack of lectures ailing Eastern Nagaland colleges, ENCSU finds

DIMAPUR, MARCH 16 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) had questioned the Nagaland Government and the education department over the inferior quality of infrastructure and the lack of sufficient lectures in the four district colleges of Eastern Nagaland.

Successfully completing the 2nd phase of educational tour which began from March 4 till 14, the ENCSU in a press statement said it held discussions with all the heads of the institutions, district administration, college student unions of Eastern Nagaland colleges and detected a number of genuine and urgent grievances faced by the institutions and the students.

Highlighting the issues, the Union pointed out that the road condition from Kiphire Town to Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC) was in an appalling condition, more so during the rainy season. It appealed the state government to construct blacktopping before the monsoon season.

The Union observed that the construction of boys’ hostel in ZPC under RUSA Scheme is not up to mark when compared with the amount sanctioned from the ministry. It has therefore requested the concerned contractor to strictly comply with the work specification.

In Yingli College, Longleng, the Union alleged that both the vocational and non-vocational project under RUSA Scheme were of substandard quality. Besides, the road was also in an appalling condition.

At Sedem Polytechnic at Tuensang, the Union raised the issue of lack of boundary fencing within the campus.

The Union also expressed concern over the lack of sufficient lectures in the colleges of Eastern Nagaland. It stated that most of the departments are being run by the temporary contract lecturers. Towards this, the Union has urged the state government to appoint sufficient lectures by next semester.

The Union also reminded of the assurance given by the concerned department to provide buses to the four colleges which have not materialized till date.

Meanwhile, the Union has urged the state government and the department of higher technical education to inaugurate the Aboi Polytechnic, Mon at the earliest. It also appealed for early completion of the building of the Wakching New Model College.
