Peren, June 29 (MExN): The Peren District Task Force on COVID-19 & Vaccination Committee reviewed the status of active cases and vaccination in the district on June 28.
Presiding over the meeting, Peren Deputy Commissioner and DTF Chairperson Sentiwapang Aier expressed concern over the low progress of COVID-19 vaccination drives in the district. According to the District Immunization Officer Dr Kiholi, as of June 27, a total 14,637 doses of COVID-19 vaccine has been been administered among the health care workers, frontline workers, citizens of 18 years and above.
DC Aier stated that unless the community comes forward, the performance of the district will remain poor. In this regard, the DC asked the civil societies and faith based organisations to provide cooperation to the district health authorities and administration in order to achieve the targeted vaccination result in the district, a DIPR report stated.
Deputy CMO Dr Lanuakum Jamir informed that, at present, there are 72 active cases in the district. The house discussed on the matters relating to the rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district. Other areas of concern discussed in the meeting included: poor public response to vaccination campaigns, lack of cooperation from the public for COVID-19 testing during contact tracing, non-adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour by the public, inactive participation of ward/village task forces and active spread of rumours/fake news on social media regarding COVID vaccine.
In this regard, Nagaland Zeliang People Organization President requested all the citizens of Peren district to follow government SOPs, cooperate with frontline workers, get vaccinated, avoid rumours and actively participate in containing the dreaded disease in the district.
COVID vaccine drive in Tening
Meanwhile, a sensitization programme and vaccination drive for all eligible persons under Tening sub-division in Peren was held at various villages under the initiative of Sub-Divisional Task Force Tening for COVID-19 on June 28.
Addressing village authorities at New Tesen Village, Tening ADC Rosietho Nguori lauded the Village Task Force (VTF) members and village council members for their cooperation towards the SDTF.
Nguori encouraged all the members to be ambassadors for COVID-19 vaccination drive and disseminate the importance of COVID vaccine to the community. He also gave a brief highlight on the roles and responsibilities of Village Task Force members on how to establish Community COVID Care Centres and enforcement of COVID-19 SOPs provided by the Government such as home isolation guidelines, ensuring free movement of health care workers/frontline workers for essential services and limitations of non-essential or movement of people.
Tening Medical Officer Dr Nuksang Jamir spoke on basic management of COVID-19 and vaccination and management of COVID related dead bodies. He raised concerns that many people are reluctant to avail proper medical advice fearing the testing of COVID-19. He however, also expressed optimism that the vaccination status and the people’s attitude towards the pandemic have been changing and the only solution to fight against the virus is to take vaccination.
Additionally, a vaccination drive was also carried out at Old Ngaulong village and Bamsiakelwa village on June 29, the DIPR report stated.
