Power thieves penalized

Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): The Electrical division of Dimapur today raided a number of places in Dimapur and panelized a number of people for unauthorized connections. The divisions informed that a Special Task Force consisting of the district administration, police and Dimapur Power officers and staff raided areas in Sovima and new Diphupar Police station on August 26 and the DC Court areas on August 30.  A note from the executive engineer of the Dimapur electrical division informed today that 51 unauthorized connections were detected. The defaulters were penalized accordingly with provisions of the Electricity Act of 2003. The penalties were followed by signing of a “good behavior bond” to not repeat the offence, the note said. The division reiterated to the public that stealing power is a “cognizable offence” according to the Indian penal code and is punishable by imprisonment up to three years or a fine or both.  Appended with the note was also a copy of names of the 51 defaulters detected during the raids.
