Amidst the surging second wave of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, Khensa village of Mokokchung district under Ongpangkong South block has achieved a major breakthrough by attaining 100% vaccination of all eligible population under its jurisdiction with first dose of Covishield vaccine.

Confirming the report to The Morung Express on Thursday, the Khensa Village Council (KVC), Chairman, Imtitoshi said that the medical department and other implementing agencies have been sensitizing the villagers on the vaccination.

However, he said, “The public trust on the COVID-19 vaccination has been overwhelming and it is of  great importance to combat the virus.”

“The positive response and cooperation from the eligible beneficiaries have helped us achieve this 100% success rate.

Despite the best sensitization programmes, if the people do not cooperate or come forward then it would be a failure,” he said and appreciated “the cooperation extended by the eligible beneficiaries of the village.”

On the pursuit and achievement of 100 % vaccination, the chairman also remarked, as Khensa village’ close vicinity to the urban area posed as a risk factor of community spreading to start, it was of eminent need for its population to be vaccinated.

“Also though the target to achieve 100% vaccination seemed herculean initially, it is imperative that someone should take the stand and set example,” the chairman asserted.

“Mokokchung District Immunization Officer, Dr Ayangla Saku and her team of medical personnel relentlessly provided with the necessary manpower and logistics to be covered during the entire vaccination drive,” the chairman added.

The feasibility of achieving this target has been due to the combining factors of proper coordination with the Khensa Village Council and convergence between NSRLM Ongpangkong South Block and Department of Health and Family Welfare, Mokokchung.

Grassroot level mobilization by NSRLM SHGs, the church leaders and door to door surveillance by the Khensa Village Community Surveillance Team comprising of ASHA, NSRLM Community Cadres and Anangwadi did a groundbreaking job of capturing accurate data and convincing the mass to take the vaccine.

According to Maynaro Jamir, Area Co-ordinator, NSRLM, RD, “40% of the population had already been vaccinated prior to the special convergence intervention by NSRLM and Department of Health and Family Welfare.” She informed that a total of 313 eligible beneficiaries took the jab during the 1st phase on June 17 and another 255 got vaccinated on June 22 “completing the figure to a cent percent.”

It would be worth mentioning that Khensa village is one of the large and highly populated villages to achieve 100% vaccination in the district.

Meanwhile, KVC has thanked the medical team led by Dr Ayangla Saku, DIO Mokokchung and staff; Sangpangjang, EAC Ongpangkong; Dr Asenla, MO and Amenla, Nurse from Sapangya PHC; Tzüdikumla (Kumlong), Nurse; Khensa Medical Sub-Centre staff; Surveillance Committee Khensa; Khensa Students’ Union; Imkongtoshi, Block Program Manager of Ongpangkong South, NSRLM; and Maynaro Jamir, Area Co-ordinator, NSRLM, RD.
