Chümoukedima, August 30 (MExN): The Rongmei Council Chümoukedima District(RCCD) observed the 91st Martyr’s Day of Haipou Jadonang on August 29.
It was hosted by Rongmei Community Diphupar at Diphupar Village Ground-2.
A press release from RCCD informend that Haipou Jadonang (1905-1931) was a spiritual and political leader from Rongmei Naga Tribe who fought against the invading policy and force of the British colonial imperialism.
The freedom fighter was the first Naga’s martyr who was hanged at the British scaffold, it said, adding that he denounced the foreign rule over the indigenous (Naga) people and its land.
Jadonang sacrificed his youthful life for the freedom of Makaam (Naga people) and committed a resolute act of defying the foes in order to defend them and their land, it added.
Accordingly, the the day was observed to mark the heroic, historic and extreme sacrifice of Jadonang, the release noted.
Mewanwhile, the resource person of the event Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer, NSDMA, Home Department exhorted the community to live with the significance of Jadonang.
He also emphasised the need of the Rongmei people to be pro-active in all field with optimism to live upto the desirable standard in the present society.
Namgai Gonmei, (Advisor RCN & Former President of RNPO) also spoke briefly about the history of freedom struggle by Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu.
The programme also featured Ho Hoying (traditional chanting) by men folk with traditional ho hoying steps, patriotic song by women group, paying homage and tribute to Jadonang by lighting of candles.
Amongo others, it was attended by the President Rongmei Council Nagaland and his collegues, Elu Ndang (Naga Hoho-Gen Secy), Meru Terieng (Gen Secy Kisan Morcha BJP Nagaland), Pou Kekhwetsu Khutsoh (Head GB Diphupar), Ghuzui Shohe (Chairman Diphupar Village Council), Tohovi Sema (GB Diphupar F-Khel) as special invitees. Members from Chumoükedima, Dimapur, Peren and Kohima Districts also attended the event.
