A Slow Loris, rescued by a villager from Sukhalu, was safely released into the Sukhai Biodiversity Conservation Area in Zunheboto district on Saturday, following assessment and consultation by the Zunheboto District Tourism Association (ZTDA).

The primate was handed over to the ZTDA, formerly known as the Nagaland Tourism Association (Zunheboto), by Nihoto K Yepthomi of Sukhalu village, who had rescued the animal on July 4 morning and initiated the process for its proper care and conservation.

After a thorough evaluation, the ZTDA released the Slow Loris into its natural habitat, ensuring the animal’s welfare while contributing to ongoing wildlife conservation efforts in the district.

ZTDA expressed appreciation to Yepthomi and the people of Sukhalu village for their responsible action and commitment to protecting wildlife.

The Association also underscored the importance of community participation in conserving the region's rich biodiversity and encouraged the public to report sightings of injured, distressed, or displaced wildlife to appropriate authorities or conservation organizations.

It further advised against attempting to keep wild animals as pets, stating that collective efforts by local communities play a vital role in safeguarding Nagaland's unique wildlife heritage for future generations.
