Revealed: What really scares Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls is scared of Brussels sprouts and drinks parties. His survival mantra is “if it can keep you alive, eat it".  And he has eaten deer droppings, yak's eyeballs, goat testicles and giant larva worms. But stick him in a fancy function or a Christmas party and he's out of his comfort zone.
"I get really nervous in social type situations when I have to go to drinks parties with like 200 people I don't know. I find that really daunting," Grylls revealed. "I'm like 'do we have to go' and my wife Shara says 'get over it, you can jump off these cliffs, you can get over this,' so I definitely feel scared at things, yes."
But, it's a little green vegetable that scares the adventurer the most. "I hate Brussels sprouts, those are my worst. My mum used to stew them, ugh, I'd take a scorpion any day over Brussels sprouts."
Six seasons deep in his Man vs. Wild series, the former SAS trooper has amassed a global audience of 1.2 billion people in 180 countries. But there was a time when the show may not have even happened. Despite staring fear in the face as part of his day job, Bear was scared of the camera. "I was really nervous when we first started Man Vs Wild. I actually said no to it about three times, just because I thought 'I don't want to do TV' and it was actually my wife Shara who said 'go, on why don't you just try it and then you know what you're saying no to.”
Bear Grylls is  the son of the late Conservative party politician Sir Michael Grylls and Lady Grylls, and was educated at Eton. Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, Grylls is a Christian, describing his faith as the "backbone" in his life.
