Unhappy with the portfolio allocated to Dr. Nicky Kire, inducted as Parliamentary Secretary for Justice and Law, and Land Revenue on Tuesday, his supporters vandalized NPF Central Office, Kohima, few hours after the swearing-in ceremony.
Later, the angry supporters gheraohed the gate of Chief Minister’s residence demanding Neiphiu Rio to keep his promise of allocating a “plump” portfolio during electioneering for the latter if he were to win by a big margin.
His supporters threatened to shut down Kohima if there was no positive response till Wednesday morning. Dr. Kire’s supporters dispersed on his request stating that talks were in progress over the issue.
In a separate incident, supporters of former Speaker, Kiyanilie Peseyie, who was inducted into the cabinet as Minister for Public Health Engineering claimed unhappiness over the allocated portfolio by staging a silent protest at the Chief Minister’s residential gate around 7 pm.
However, no untoward incident was reported at the venue of protest. His supporters thronged the gate, rejecting the portfolio allocated to Peseyie. Supporters of both Dr. Kire and Peseyie claimed that Rio had reportedly assured “plump” portfolios to the duo if they won by a huge margin.
