RPP questions GoI’s representative, PAC

Dimapur, July 30 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has questioned the role and approach of the Government of India’s representative for the Indo-Naga political talks, A K Mishra, alleging a lack of clarity and sincerity in the peace process.

In a press statement, the party criticised Mishra’s engagement in the ongoing talks, stating that it resembled “putting the cart before the horse.” It sought clarification on the current status and relevance of the “Framework Agreement” and the “Agreed Position,” and whether Mishra had succeeded in bringing various Naga factions on board for a final settlement. It also questioned the absence of a clear timeline for such a settlement.

The RPP maintained that the present unity efforts among Naga groups should take precedence over negotiations, suggesting that the GoI representative “take a break” until meaningful progress is achieved on that front and “avoid fishing in troubled waters.”

It further called for the disbanding of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) formed by the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-Bharatiya Janata Party (NDPP-BJP) coalition, stating that it served no substantive purpose other than projecting the appearance of engagement.

The RPP accused certain leaders of prioritising personal legacies and political interests over collective progress. It argued that such leadership fails to understand the political disposition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom the party characterised as respecting strength and unity.

“Entities chasing self-serving goals at the cost of unity should be careful lest history denounce them as puppets and traitors,” it added.
