SABLA scheme implemented in 3 dists

Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): The Ministry of Women & Child Development has initially selected three districts in Nagaland viz; Tuensang, Mon and Kohima for implementing the central scheme “Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowering Adolescent Girls” (SABLA). The prospect of expansion in the other district will depend on the success of these pilot projects.
The scheme aims to address the problems of young adolescent girls by way of facilitating them to avail nutritional needs. The scheme provides holistic approach to all round development for enhancing their nutritional status through supplementary nutrition and providing training on vocational trades. The scheme aims to empower adolescent girls in the age group of 11 and 18 by improving their nutritional and health status, upgradation of home skills, life skills and vocational skills. These girls would be equipped with information on health and family welfare, hygiene and guidance on existing public services. The scheme aims to bring back dropout school girls in to the mainstream either for formal education or non-formal education.
A team of officers led by Khevito T. Shohe, Additional Director, Social Welfare and D. T H Anthony, programme officer conducted training on SABLA at Tuensang, Longkhim and Chare ICDS project on April 12 and 13. The training was attended by all the CDPOs along with their staff, informed a press note issued by the department. During the training the Additional Director in his address spoke about the purpose of introducing the new scheme.
The department will provide nutrition items, training in cutting and tailoring, knitting and embroidery, impart knowledge in child care and home management through existing anganwadi centre. This will enable them to face their future with confidence.
