Sümi Aphuyemi Totimi Hoho (SATH) held its 32nd annual conference today at Town Hall, Pughoboto. It was held under the theme ‘to conserve and protect our culture’
Speaking on the occasion, Piholi Swunetho K Swu, President STH Kohima said that “our cultural heritage, in particular Sülimiphimini (Sümi women traditional attire) is under threat, not from outsiders but from among us.”
She stressed on the need for the womenfolk to know how to preserve one’s rich tradition and culture. Swu also called upon young women to make a habit of wearing one’s traditional attire, which will go a long way in preserving one’s cultural heritage. Stating that women are the peacemakers, she exhorted that SATH has a huge role to play in rebuilding relationships at home and among the communities.
Guest of honour for the occasion, Vikato M Swu, President, VDB Association, Ghathashi Block, Pughoboto commended the progress of the Aphuyemi women in particular.
While stating that the SATH has a lot to offer to the community, Swu reminded the gathering that the Hoho is for all women and not only for the mothers. He urged the young women to come forward and contribute towards excellence in all fields. Expressing concern that the young women still has a lot to offer, Swu challenged the youth to be bold enough to take up more leadership roles.
Qhetoli V Zhimo, Assistant Cultural Secretary, STH (Apex) said that “the Aphuyemi is suffering and we women need to come forward and help heal the community.” She also urged the men to participate in the healing process.
Earlier, STH Mishilimi presented Lejole (folk song). The SATH resolution was also read out and the display of different Aphuyemi traditional attire was presented. Invocation was pronounced by Katoli Swu, Associate Pastor Women, Pughoboto Town Baptist Church; while Shiholi V Wotsa, President, SATH gave a welcome speech.
Altogether 19 villages attended the conference, which included Sümi Totimi Hoho (STH) members, village chieftain and village council chairman.
