SBCK youth hosts centenary penalty shootout

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 3 (MExN): The Youth Department of the Sumi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) organised a Centenary Penalty Shootout as part of its 100-year jubilee celebration on October 2 at D Khel Ground, Kohima Village.

A total of 35 teams participated in the competition, representing Nagaland Christian Revival Church Sumi Kohima, Aphuyemi Baptist Church Kohima, and Sumi Baptist Church Kohima.

The event was graced by Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Centenary Planning Chairman, who served as the guest speaker. In his address, Sema commended the Youth Department for hosting the event, stating that it had brought together different Sumi Church associations through sports. He said that youths are the pillars of the church and the hope for the future.

Quoting from 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, Sema underlined the value of discipline and focus in both sports and Christian life. He said that while athletes strive for temporary recognition, Christians are called to aim for an eternal reward. “Live with purpose, self-control, and unwavering faith,” he urged, pointing to the apostle Paul’s example of spiritual discipline. He also extended centenary jubilee greetings and wished continued blessings and growth in faith.

In the results, the Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Church Kohima, Youth Department, emerged champion, taking home a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The Old Boys Club finished as first runner-up, securing Rs 30,000, while Wax Club placed second runner-up with Rs 15,000. Toluto Shohe received the Golden Glove award.

The program opened with an invocation prayer led by Kughavi Chisho, Associate Pastor Fellowship. The event was chaired by Alobo Kits, Youth Standing Member. Before the shootout began, blessings were pronounced by Khekavi K Yeptho, Pastor of SBCK.

Following the competition and award distribution, a vote of thanks was delivered by Convenor Hitono Shohe. The event concluded with a benediction prayer by Akuto Achumi, Associate Pastor Youth.
