
Kohima | September 25 : The choice of a right career is one of the biggest challenges faced by students today. The students at the secondary stage stand at the cross-roads of their academic or vocational career when each student ha to choose a course of study or a vocation after he/she leaves the schools.
This was stated in the career information series: 6 brought out by Vocational Guidance & Counseling Cell, State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Nagaland.
This booklet for “Career Opportunities for Secondary Students” stated that the students at this stage need adequate and authentic information about both educational opportunities and occupations, adding that the first step in choosing a career is to acquaint with a wide range of information about educational and training facilities offered by an increasing number of institutions.
Modern science and technology has created a number of career and vocations, the booklet said adding that new professions are emerging; giving new opportunities in the present world of work. This has created a rapid increase in demand for career information and guidance services among school students to help them to relate their intrinsic aspirations to courses of study related to work and life.
SCERT director Vipralhou Kesiezie in foreword of the publication said that in response to this demand, the present career information series have been developed to provide the basic information on how to make a realistic choice of a career, adding that these series have been designed to meet the needs of career information for the secondary students.
This series- 9 publication touched the career opportunities in vocational training courses, self employment, training course in polytechnic, career in sports, photography, tourist guide as a career, travel agents etc.
The booklet is being made available at the various educational institutions during career seminars, conference etc. conducted by SCERT, said Zavise Rume, officer in charge Vocational Guidance & Counseling Cell, SCERT.
