Two soldiers of the Assam Rifles were injured in a freak road mishap at NH 29 at Kukidolong on July 17. The AR troopers were on a routine security patrol at a Mobile Vehicle Checkpoint set at up on the highway near their company base in Kukidolong, Chümoukedima. The accident occurred sometime in the afternoon. According to official sources, they were caught in the way of a taxi, which skidded and tipped over while stopping. The taxi driver was reportedly caught unaware when signaled to stop at the checkpoint.
“It was raining. The car skidded and tumbled over while stopping. The sudden braking under wet conditions must have caused the car to tumble over,” a source said. Two soldiers at the checkpoint were knocked down as the taxi skidded and capsized. Fortunately, the duo survived with minor injury, the source said. The occupants in the taxi survived unharmed.
