DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The cultural day as part of the weeklong St Joseph College, Jakhama College Week, 2023 was celebrated on November 3 in the college indoor stadium. The day saw events like modern dance and acapella competitions besides the main event of Miss and Mister Title Josephite contest.
Ten teams namely Centaur, Cyclops, Dragon, Goblin, Golem, Griffin Minotaur, Phoenix, Werewolf and Yeti are participating in various events like the indoor games, outdoor games and athletics.
The college week which was inaugurated on October 30 with the opening ceremony organized by the SJC (A) Games and Sports Committee and hosted by the NK Kawidinliu, BBA 5th semester.
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the college flag by the special guest, Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of Youth Resource and Sports. Rev Sr Sunitha D Souza RJM pronounced the invocation following which Dr Fr George Keduolhou Angami, principal delivered the welcome address.
Special guest Sekhose in his address emphasized on the importance of such annual events, stating, "Organizing annual weeks with a multitude of sporting activities is a means to promote physical fitness and overall well-being."
He further shared insights on an innovative approach of the department to introduce sports tourism as a means of promoting sports in a unique way. He acknowledged the potential for sports tourism as a catalyst for socio-economic growth and development. Sekhose further encouraged the young leaders in the audience, while recognizing St. Joseph's College as a breeding ground for future leaders who play a pivotal role in fostering inclusive development.
Moile Konyak of team Dragon was crowned as Miss Josephite, 2023 while Hiredila Sangtam of team Griffin was the runner-up. In Mister Category, Rukukhoto Ltu of team Centaur was judged as Mister Josephite, 2023 while Zhozo Chizo of team Cyclops was the runner-up. The closing ceremony of the annual college week will be held on November 4.
