Kohima, June 1 (MExN): Japfü Christian College, amid their international seminar on ‘Food-Man-Spirit Complex among the Naga Indigenous Tribes’, hosted the Kohima launch of Easterine Kire’s book, ‘Spirit Nights.’ The Delhi launch and the Imphal launch of the book took place earlier in the month.

The book was released by Rev Chingmak Chang at the college. The book is inspired by the Chang Naga folktale Naknyulum which is about the recovery of the light in a period of total darkness, stated a press release received here. Referring to the story of darkness in the book, Rev Chingmak said that there are different kinds of darkness and each of us can contemplate on the darkness we are going through.

The author expressed gratitude to the Chang community for sharing the story of Naknyulum. She called the book ‘a tribute to Chang storytelling’ where the seed of the book was taken from the Chang folktale. The writer explained that she has brought her imagination to the seed and used the format of fiction to cast the rest of the story.

The book focuses on the ancient spiritual wisdom posited in chosen members of the tribe that can deliver the community.
