Commissioner of State Taxes, Government of Nagaland, Thejawelie Gregory (IAS) today asserted that identifying problems and providing solutions in the community comes by putting into practice values that we receive from education.
He was addressing the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Alumni Association St Joseph College, Autonomous, Jakhama in the college on November 18.
As an administrator, he said bringing permanent changes or influencing rigid mindset that prevail in the society came with determination to bring change. Gregory in this regard, says education instils responsibility and human values apart from academic achievement. He said college is a stepping stone to achieve our aspirations but after attaining that we should also be of help to the society.
Gregory called the attendance of alumni and students to come out of one's comfort zones as this was key to achieving goals targeted to change. Looking back as a 1st batch, 1985 of the college and comparing it with today, he lauded the leap of progress made by the college.
Rev Dr Fr George Keduolhou Angami, Patron, Alumni Association and Principal, SJC (A), Jakhama, 1986 Alumni while speaking on the theme, ‘Igniting Oneness’ said the fundamental reason why we have Alumni meet is create opportunity for the College to show love and affection towards their former graduate students and to celebrate your achievements.
He said every year the College submits Annual Quality Assurance Report to NAAC, Alumni Association activities and contributions are asked to be provided. In this regard, the principal lauded the multiple roles played by the association which he commended that it justifies the years spent at this institution.
He said two to three decades ago, the college was small and struggling institution, but has grown to exceed four thousand students and more than hundred teaching staff.
During the programme, Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi, 1st President, Alumni Association, 1985 Alumni shared memoir and Jubilee Tribute was given by Dr Medonuo Pienyü, Co-convener, Organizing Committee, 2004 batch. Natalie Rhütso, 2020 Alumni chaired the programme.
A jubilee memorial basketball match was also organized after the formal programme.
