The stage is set for conduct of Lok Sabha polls to Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency and bye-election to 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency, which will be held simultaneously on April 11.
The polling will start from 7:00 am and end at 4:00 pm.
Altogether, 12,13,777 voters will exercise their franchise for Lok Sabha polls and 12,482 for bye-election to 26 Aonglenden Assembly Constituency.
Out of 12,13,777 general electors for Lok Sabha polls, 5,98,503 are female and 6,15,274 male.
Out of 12,482 voters for bye-election, 6,290 are female and 6,192 male.
Polling for Lok Sabha will take place in 2,227 polling stations and bye-election in 16 polling stations.
Arrangements have been made for web streaming at 269 polling stations.
The election to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland will be a four cornered contest. The candidates include KL Chishi (INC), Tokheho Yepthomi (NDPP), Hayithung Tungoe (NPP) and Dr. MM Thromwa Konyak (Independent).
Bye-election to 26 Aonglenden A/C will witness a straight contest between Sharingain Longkumer (NDPP) and Alem Jongshi (INC).
All arrangements in place for smooth conduct of poll
Nagaland’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Abhijit Sinha today informed that elaborate arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of the poll.
Talking to media persons here, Sinha said that polling teams including security personnel have already left their respective place of polling stations.
About 250 sector magistrates will also move around on the polling day.
“We are expecting that everything will go nicely and there would not be any problem anywhere,” he said.
Before the actual poll takes place on April 11, mock poll will be conducted at 6:00 am everywhere for Lok Sabha polls and 5:30 am for bye-election.
The ‘mock poll’ is conducted to test if the EVMs, the VVPAT, the ballot unit or the control unit are functioning well.
Sinha informed that there has not been any major law and order issue anywhere so far.
Meanwhile, Sinha informed that scrutiny of Form 17A and other documents shall be done at Returning Officer (RO) office, Kohima on April 12 at 11:00 am.
This is done for those polling stations where complaints may have been there.
Final scrutiny will be done on that day by the observer in the presence of RO, candidate(s) or representative of the candidate(s), he said.
CEO appeals voters
CEO Nagaland made a fervent appeal to each and every voter to come out and exercise their franchise.
He also urged everyone to vote fearlessly and not be influenced by consideration of religion, race, cast, community, language or by any inducement.
Calling for ethical and informed voting, he said, “Each and every vote is important. One should definitely come out and vote.”
Total liquor seizure at 65,400 litres
The total liquor seizure by law enforcing agencies has gone up to 65,400 litres (as on April 10) since the announcement of the electioneering process in Nagaland. The total cash seizure stands at Rs. 92, 26, 640.
