Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today stated that although the supply condition of power in the state has greatly improve and Nagaland was the first state in the North East to each 100% of all recognized villages, “it is unable to make a profit on resale of power.”

Replying this to MLA Amenba Yaden on the floor of the House, Rio, who is minister  in-charge of power  stated that those loses are mainly due to widely spread consumers across all strata of society, high level of rural distribution, tendency of consumers not to pay for their actual consumption etc.

Rio informed that the department is taking up various initiatives like introduction of online payment of electricity bills, installation of pre-paid meters, engagement of anti power theft police squad etc.

He however said that the challenges are very huge and it requires collective effort of both the department and society to tackle the matter together.
