Liberal Democratic People of Nagaland
It has become imperative for Nagaland to pragmatically conduct clean poll this time round and this cannot be compromised at any cost. Despite of having acknowledging the crucial aftermath of a clean poll to harbor a sound system and harmonious development, it is inadequate having to have hear rumors of elements trying to motivate regression by adopting to conventional method of monetary-influential amassment of voters and other unscrupulous means. The state and the people have an extensive role to play to expunge out the ill-practices.
It would require of the law enforcing authority to be vigilant as well as responsive to illicit adventures of undemocratic elements—should it favor to the discontent of the change seeking public. The incident at Mokokchung…where it was reported of an intending candidate (name withhold), of having arranged a mob to demoralize the section of public who were campaigning for clean election, is a forthright provocation to hamper the desire of peoples’ sentimental ordinance for clean polls. In the future, we should be prepared for such misadventures by filling an FIR and taking a legal course of action against those who deliberately seek to disproportionate the peoples movement – for which does not require particular section of the constitution about the peculiarity of the case, to press charges on and seek justice; natural justice as embedded in the constitution and our common sense will resonate to justice. [For instance: the “common law” (laws established through court judgments) of UK’s unwritten constitution – at the heart of it lies the principle, known as ‘stare decisis’ – that judges should decide cases according to consistent principles and rules, so that similar facts will reveal similar results. Emphasis here is to be laid on the peculiarity of the case.] The point being that every criminal act is a legal offence and it could be pursued in a court of law.
The election commission (state) should also make it an effort to ensure the success of a goal-oriented outcome—one that would entail progression, which would be-in-effect only after a true democratic means of election. Some reasonable measures would be to bar the candidates or expel/terminate his candidature if found to be resorting to unethical means for harboring votes. Based on past events about candidates gathering mob and capturing booths…upon such factual instigation, the law enforcing authority should also well coordinate with the public to check and book the culprits to be put up for a trail in court for contempt.
We the people have also been constantly put into the misconception of essentially being at the mercy of the prominent parties to mount up alone for participating in the quest to represent and bear the grievance of the people – which although hasn’t bore if any contentment as to suffice the suppressed lot, caught up in the cycle, as much as to appease the mass for consecutive term. The notion also sums up for introspection; if it obnoxiously is a priority or privilege; which hitherto has been the later due to implication of undemocratic and unethical methods as well as regular discrepancies being assimilated owing to distanced and opaque intrinsic factor in exchanging (on both and the other) – the relevance of being constant in communicating via democratic expression. Thus, the challenge we the people truly face is, whether our dependence on adamant prominent representatives would exceedingly solve our deteriorated socio-economic and political conditions.
It is eminent that our prominent political figures and their governments have subsequently failed to deliver to the people the dynamics required for development let alone its manifestation. Because the people deserve more and only that it is rightfully ours—which has been long due, with every successive government failing desolately short. It is apparent that our whole state mechanism has to be stirred and rinsed thoroughly and begin-anew without which, the anticipation for development is a lost cause. We falter at our infrastructural accomplishment when the pot-holes could also not be filled up unswervingly – to say the least, even in National Highway 39, whilst there is the long proposed vision for a four lane. But why should we be contended by a four lane, why not an eight lane? Why not multiple eight lane? And can the money inclined representatives actually keep up with the expectations of the public if there will not be much to be siphoned off. These are the questions every sensible or any citizens alike should be putting forth against ourselves and our representatives; if that is why they resolved to participate as a candidate in the elections, to begin with. These are necessitated along with growth in every aspect of development, so that we could heave a sigh of relief as opposed to our present deplorable infrastructural conditions, whenever we commute in and out from our dwellings, and get home.
Another measure to enhance the probability for a people-oriented government could be to coordinate among the section of public and participate in the polls with a singular aspiration and goal. This calls for the responsible; sensible; youth and the educated section of the public to shoulder responsibility together – as our future for a progressive collective growth relies on ourselves, and none can make it possible for us, other than ourselves. It is us the public who are well aware of our grievances and not a veteran regional politician. This would require of the sensible and responsible citizens from as much constituency, to organize among themselves in their respective constituency; educate the people about the urgency and bi-product of a clean poll; and put up a candidate—with no agenda of individuality, but one that merely represents the collective aspiration of the people of the region (like every other politician is supposed to), which in the later part will embody the collective aspiration of the whole. This movement should be well in harmony resonating to calm and clean poll. Such measure only becomes essential for the deprived and unconditional subjects we have been, after about fifty years of having being declared as a democratic state – this is legitimate both constitutionally and democratically.
In case of some candidates, resorting to monetary and undemocratic means to accumulate and establish emphasis on voters – it has to be ascertained that the people should not feel obligated to exchange his/her vote just because the candidate decided to corrupt democracy. If the powerful people with their money can play foul targeting the desperateness of the people despite reiterating again and time, we the suppressed lot can also make it right by accepting their persistent misuse of money and casting our vote on any candidate who professes to abide by true democratic norms and serve the people and the state by such.
We have been deferred from progression by many factors and elements at the cost of events that transpired during our quest for a sustainable nation, and although uncertainty looms over our future and we are ignorant as ever about the contingency that would portray our threshold, as a late race of human species embarking on a clean democratic setup – we have the outmost privilege and right to preserve our democracy—for today and the Nagas of tomorrow. And since the representatives of the people would be under an independent banner with no means to address the people for recognition, if multiple candidates arise – in order to clear out misinterpretation, we can correspond among ourselves and formally announce the list of representatives, in print or social media, during the allotted and convenient time. The responsibility we would assume today would present itself as a legacy and an inheritance for our future generations to embody fortitude and rapprochement with the world and forth.
