Kohima, November 20 (MExN): Addressing the gathering during a cultural day programme at Mount Olive College in Kohima on Saturday, Dr Easterine Kire, renowned author, urged the student community to give importance to “internal culture” as they would do to “external culture” to live as righteous citizens.
Speaking as the guest speaker, Kire said that though components of external culture may change, internal culture's values remain within a person until one dies, a press release stated here. As such, she emphasised on imbibing the culture of inner beauty which defines the mind and character of a person.
Stating that internal culture uplifts others, she stressed on the need to develop an excellent internal culture to match beautiful external culture. Kire maintained how one's internal culture flows out from a place of “compassion, tolerance and patience,” and reminded how it should be centred in a place of blessing and not criticism.
Folk songs and dances while showcasing the diversity of cultural fashion show were presented by the students at the event. Viliebeinuo Miachio-o, HoF, Assistant Professor, Department of English delivered the welcome note while Shongmo hosted the event.
Earlier, the 29th annual fresher meet 2021 of the college was also held where Swedezhono Tsükrü, its principal exhorted the students. Wangshimeren Pongen and Obed K spoke on behalf of the seniors and freshers respectively during the programme. Atobo and Ketoü were crowned Mr and Miss Olivian 2021 respectively.
