Students taught on leadership lessons

Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): An Inter College Leadership cum Peace Celebration programme was organized at Rivenburg Chapel, Mission compound, Kohima Village on June 11 by Peace Channel, Kohima District. Peace Channel members from the following institutions attended the programme namely Oriental College, Baptist College, St. Joseph’s College, Kohima Arts College and Christ King Higher Secondary School. Altogether, a total number of 55 students attended the gathering.
Robert Solo, the proprietor of St. Joseph School, Thizama Village and also a prominent leader in the diocese of Kohima was the guest speaker for the programme where he spoke on ‘Leadership.’ He reminded the students that as leaders, one has to first change oneself to change others. He said, one should gather courage to practice truth and non- violence even in violent and conflict situations and that one should not just be mute spectators to the confusions around. In this connection, he urged all the peace channel members to be pro-active and not being reactive and prove themselves as true leaders before others. While taking himself as an example, he challenged the students that they are much more educated and qualified than him in terms of education and so they can be effective agents for any positive change. He concluded with a group activity where he ask every students to reflect upon oneself, listen to the one’s own inner voice and pointing out both one’s strength and weaknesses and transforming the weaknesses. He also inaugurated the new Peace Channel brochures to be used in Kohima District.
Ashikho, the headmaster of Holy Cross School, Kohima who was also present at the programme as an invitee and well-wisher of the movement also exhorted the students, and congratulated all of them for their noble voluntarism to be members of the Peace Channel Movement as peace activists. He also added that, peace should first begin from oneself and transcend to others around us. He announced that he is so happy to be a part of the movement and has assured his best cooperation and service towards this Youth Peace Movement.
Victor Kevilhouthie Yhome, coordinator of Peace Channel, Kohima District felicitated the whole programme. He also held a meditation hour where he led the students to a moment of relaxation and deep understanding about oneself. Many students pledged to transform their weaknesses and shortcomings after identifying it through meditating. He mentioned and explained the seven steps of Peace Celebration. He said that “Peace Celebration is a systematic seven steps procedure of celebrating peace, where people beyond their differences in tribe, region, religion, denomination, language etc…come together to share peace with one another and promoting peace, thus creating frequencies of peace around ”. The programme included prayers, songs and several sharing and expressions by the students from the different institutions and concluded with the Peace celebration.
