Sumi Hoho ready to play proactive role in Naga unification process

Dimapur | July 17 : Hinting at waking from a lull of almost three years since the NSCN/GPRN Isak and Muivah banned Sumi Hoho and the Western Sumi Hoho in July 2008, the Sumi Hoho has asserted that it will play a proactive role and vigorously work for the Naga unification process and also pursue reconciliation process to its end.
The NSCN/GPRN had banned the two Sumi apex organizations in July 2008 for allegedly “misleading and dictating the Sumis to support the self-styled unification group which in reality merged with Khaplang” during that time. The ban on Sumi Hoho was revoked in July 2010 in the light of the “journey of common hope” and on the request of the Pughoboto GBs Association and other public leaders.
Interacting with The Morung Express on the sidelines of the recent Tulunih festival celebration at Zunheboto, the Sumi Hoho office bearers said that the Hoho had not been lying low during the last two or three years as might have thought by many. They said that the Hoho was fully supporting the Naga reconciliation process under the initiative of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation. They said when the Hoho was supporting and strengthening the FNR, it (Sumi Hoho) obviously will not be seen at the forefront. They said this could have been observed as maintaining a low profile but that the Hoho has never slowed down, and have always been playing its part.
On the Naga political issue, the Sumi Hoho said though solution was not its subject matter, if its opinion was sought, then “we want an early settlement but that has to be acceptable and honourable to all the Nagas and not the negotiating parties alone.”
On the Ntangki issue, the Sumi Hoho reaffirmed its decision to support the six-point resolution passed by the Western Sumi Hoho and the 15-day ultimatum on the state government to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of June 30 incident at Inavi village.
Meanwhile, the Sumi Hoho has felicitated Rev Dr Wati Aier for receiving the 2011 Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Denton and Janice Lotz Human Rights Award. The Sumi Hoho expressed the hope that Rev Dr Wati would continue to sincerely work for the people and the Naga society.
