Symbolic issues core to ongoing Indo- Naga Political Dialogue: JDU Nagaland

Says flamboyant perspectives by individuals demean Nagas pol struggle

WOKHA, MARCH 24 (MExN): The Janata Dal United, Nagaland Unit today stated that flamboyant expressions by many Nagas while sharing their perspectives on the ongoing Indo-Naga Political Dialogue have demeaned the “historic foundation of the Nagas political struggle.”

Such indulgence, advertently or inadvertently, is causing irreparable damage to the indomitable sacrifices and provoking the souls of those patriots who have laid down their lives honourably, JDU Nagaland stated in a statement.

Stating its stand on ongoing Indo-Naga Political Dialogue “once and for all,” the Unit noted that it is “unequivocal” that the Government of India (GoI) has recognised the “Unique History of the Nagas” implying that the Naga Political issue is intrinsic to its unique history.

Accordingly, any political solution must be “Unique in its nature,” it said.

“In this very Uniqueness, lies the Symbolic Issues which includes both the Flag and the Constitution and any solution to the Naga problem must address this Symbolic Issues in such dimensions honourable to the negotiating groups,” it declared.

The JDU Nagaland further alleged that certain Naga individuals and political leaders are trying to deviate from such core issues with an intention to “vitiate the fragile mind of the Naga populace.”

Such Nagas are desperately trying to woe the innocent Nagas with high sounding Economic and Developmental package, it said, and called for resisting such elements.

‘The Naga cause is very dear and no individual or groups must indulge so as to make gains for themselves or please others at the higher helms for intended political mileage,’ it added.

Conversely, the JDU Nagaland also stated that the National Workers must ensure that they refrain from indulging in the electoral process being held under the Indian Constitution.

This is a pertinent issue and such intervention, officially or otherwise, only downgrade the noble status of the Naga National Movement and it creates disdain in the minds of the Naga public towards the Naga political struggle, it added.

If there are elements within the National Workers, they must come out and openly participate in the electoral process, instead of acting in camouflage or de facto for their individual gains, the Unit stated.

At the same time, they must desist from taking Naga National Movement as an industry for their selfish interest must desist from such action, it added.

Though, the Unit did not mentioned anyone in particular, the statement was issued in the backdrop of recent comments pertaining to the Naga political issue in the Nagaland State Assembly by the Nagaland Minister and State BJP President Temjen Imna Along Longkumer.
