DIMAPUR, MAY 16 (MExN): The COVID-19 management team for Dimapur visited the New Naga cemetery at Zani today, and paid respect to people who lost their lives to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team was led by Nodal Officer for Dimapur, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, and accompanied by Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo, IPS; ADC Dimapur, Athoke Aye and other officials
The team arrived at the time when the 75th victim of COVID-19 from Dimapur was brought to the cemetery for burial.
Pained to observe the absence of anyone to perform the last rites, Sema volunteered to pray before the burial took place and consoled the family members of the deceased. He assured that the government would continue to protect the loved ones.
The Nodal Officer thanked the Naga Council Dimapur for timely establishment of the cemetery stating that the old cemetery would not have accommodated such a huge number of burials. Towards this he particularly thanked former NCD Chairman, late Ghokheto Chopy and the land donors for timely preparation of the cemetery which has eased the burden of burials at this time of COVID crisis.
Lauding the DMC Task Force, SDRF and Home Guard personnel for management and burial of COVID related deaths, he said this was one of the toughest jobs which deserve appreciation from all quarters. Sema also thanked the Western Sumi Hoho for its decision to extend monetary allowances to the DMC and SDRF personnel involved in the burial of each COVID victim.
