Tetso College inaugurates 120KW solar power plant

Dimapur, September 21 (MExN): Tetso College on September 20 inaugurated a 120KW solar rooftop hybrid energy storage system, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy use in higher education institutions in Northeast India. The inauguration ceremony was held in Hall 1994 of the college campus.

The event was graced by Er R Lobosang Jamir, Additional Chief Engineer (D&R) and Team Leader of the Nagaland Solar Mission (NSM), who officially inaugurated the installation. The project was implemented in partnership with A&D Solar Enterprise. According to the college, the hybrid system is designed to generate and store clean energy to maximize self-consumption, reducing dependence on the conventional power grid to an absolute minimum.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Richie, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work and Advisor to the Tetso Nature Club. Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal of Tetso College, highlighted the institution’s commitment to embedding sustainability within its core values.

A presentation on ‘Tetso Green Campus Initiatives’ was given by Mhachen R Kithan, an NSS volunteer from BCA 3rd Semester, outlining the college’s broader environmental vision. Derrick Soans, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of A&D Solar Enterprise, provided a detailed technical introduction to the solar project, explaining its operational mechanics and long-term benefits.

In his inaugural address, Er. R. Lobosang Jamir commended Tetso College for its initiative and underscored the project’s significance in advancing the state’s solar energy goals. He stated that such projects are crucial for promoting energy security and environmental stewardship in Nagaland.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lovi Aye, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work and Co-Advisor of NSS and Red Ribbon Club.

The 120KW solar installation serves as a live laboratory for students to gain practical learning in renewable energy technology, solidifying Tetso College’s role as an educational leader championing an eco-conscious future for Northeast India.
