Yes:
• Kisama Naga heritage village is also part of infrastructural development
• The Government of Nagaland's (GON) initiative to develop Kisama as a hub for cultural and experiential tourism is a commendable step. With immense potential in the tourism industry, Nagaland's rich cultural heritage and unique traditions can attract global audiences, and the Hornbill Festival stands as the perfect gateway to achieving this vision. Dubbed as the "Festival of Festivals," the Hornbill Festival showcases the vibrant traditions of Nagaland, serving as both a celebration and a marketing pitch for the state.
Developing Kisama and the Heritage Village offers Nagaland an opportunity to position itself as a premier destination for cultural tourism. However, to make this initiative truly impactful, the GON must go beyond organizing annual festivities or relying on pageantry. It is essential to strike a balance between showcasing traditions and ensuring their authenticity remains intact. Over-commercialization risks diluting the essence of Naga culture, turning a celebration of heritage into mere spectacle.
To preserve and promote the Naga identity/culture, the GON should consider the following measures:
Establishment of Cultural Research Institutes: Dedicated institutions can document, study, and preserve the diverse traditions, languages, and practices of Nagaland's tribes, ensuring they are not lost to time.
Curation of Cultural Resources: By creating museums, digital archives, and interactive exhibits, Nagaland can offer visitors an immersive experience that both educates and entertains.
The Hornbill Festival and the development of Kisama must be more than a singular event or project. They should be part of a larger strategy to establish Nagaland as a model of sustainable cultural tourism. By preserving its rich heritage and offering meaningful experiences to visitors, Nagaland can carve out a distinctive space in the global tourism landscape while empowering its communities and celebrating its unique identity.
No:
• Enough has been invested in the Hornbill Festival. Now is the time to invest in the roads, water, electricity and other basic infrastructure. When will the state government realise that we need to develop our infrastructure to promote tourism. Our leaders should know that for tourism to flourish in Nagaland, there must be tourists coming in throughout the year and not just during Hornbill.
• We need holistic tourism and not just focused on Hornbill Festival. Nagaland is an impoverished state. The meagre funds that are coming to our state must be used judiciously by the government of the day.
• Because the budget is for Nagaland development
• Creating an illusion and eroding our values
• Nagaland government has money for hornbill festival and only one success done by government is hornbill festival but what about the other developments is 0+0.
• A big fat "NO". Greatly disappointed.
• No, We Want Frontier Nagaland Territory FNT
• Just say out of those 100 crore only 10 crore will be utilised towards the said project.
• Only for infrastructure development then it's a big no.
• No and never better our Nagaland government should construct the roads
• The Hornbill Festival is a festival of Nagaland…so why should there be development just in Kisama? Even the other districts are badly in need of proper infrastructure development!!
• 25 years of wastage and counting
• Infrastructure development can include:
Building roads, highways, and bridges
Developing irrigation systems
Improving water supply and sanitation
Constructing ports and airports
Building storing facilities
Developing oil and gas pipelines
Improving telecommunication services like telephone lines and broadband systems
• Why not 10 -20 crore instead of 100. Big NOOOOOOOO, first think about Nagaland road
• Why not built district hospitals in those new districts and create employment?
• Big No... Rather build University and Hospitals
• If they use all the amount for the work that will be nice.
Others:
• Tourism is imperative to Nagaland progress and revenue. I know many will not see the potential in it yet but Nagas need to invest in it big.
• Every region needs developmental attention. Tourist doesn't just visit Kisama in the month of December but every nook and corner of Nagaland. 100 crore can do a lot of work. Exclusive development of particular region benefitting particular community is not at all a wise policy.
• Government of Nagaland and its machinery, as we all know has been running in deficit each budget! Where did they take the 100crores baki? Our roads and bridges are in shambles, our basic infrastructure seems to be nowhere in maintenance for decades. Yet, we are ready to simply ready to dance to the dusts of corruption and unquestioning loyalty to our elected representatives!
• I would suggest that the Hornbill festival is trimmed down to a 5 day festival. Yet, I know the government would still make it 100+ budget festival. But honestly, for me, it's too long.
• This makes no sense at all. Even after 25 years of Hornbill Festival, the event is not self-sustaining and actually creates a burden on the state exchequer. Now to invest 100 crore in the Heritage Village is just plain lack of vision. If the government invests 100 crore, do you think the Hornbill will create a profit of 200 crore. Unlikely.
• Even if we don't support this decision. What's gonna matter?
• Why not built district hospitals in those new districts and create employment?
• And those people who say a big No will be in Kisama enjoying for 10 days. That’s the irony of Naga people.
• Government of Nagaland and allocation? I think the entire poll is a mistake. It's like you're giving yourself money. See listen. Who is going to allocate the funds for development at Kisama heritage the Government of Nagaland. And who will received the funds obviously Nagaland Government and what does the does the Nagaland Government comprise of CM Deputy CM, cabinet minister, home minister, MLA, tribal minister or and not forgetting to mention the VDB, and other offices affiliated to Government of Nagaland. So isn't that same as giving money to yourself because they are the Government of Nagaland and they are going to allocate the funds and receive also they will.
• When he dies only 6ft deep and 4ft wide will be his only anyway might lose his soul
• Political talks are failing big time so trying to divert the attention.
• Instead government must help poor people
• Only 100 crore?
• What will happen if I don't support this decision? Nothing
• You guys No. Can't change anything.
