The Naga Blog: A sincere request to the Chief Minister

Atso Venuh:  Dear Sir, We the students of class 11th and 12th are going to start our board exams from tomorrow so we sincerely and humbly request you to provide regularly electricity during our exams. Thanking you.

'Your beloved sons and daughters.'

Bazo Kire: Atso, go and study. Give facebook a rest tonight and all the best for your paper tomorrow.

Peter Rutsa: To all those appearing Board examinations. Do start early for your centre's. Make most use of the daylight and avoid facing electricity problem at night.

We all felt our infamous traffic jams today at Kohima and I am sure it was the same in Dimapur. Sad for all of you for the inconsistent power supply as well. And for us other motorist, it would be a very nice gesture if we give priority to cars with students in uniform on board. Students, do not feel embarrassed to ask for a lift or any other form help on the way. People will help, just make sure you are in proper uniform.

Another request. It would be very very good if, for the duration of the exams, we other road users avoid shopping and avoid using the road from 8am to 9am and from 12pm to 1pm for the sake of our students moving to their centres.

There are numerous reports of students reaching late not just because they started late but because of traffic. Every minute is precious and students need all the time they can find revising and its not practical they start for the centre 2 hours in advance. The traffic personal of all districts should be out in full possible strength till Board exams are done with. Forget the VIP's for a few days. Thanks all.

Naga society needs a true liberator

Taliakum Pongener Aliba: This is the scene of the morning chapel at Salangtem Government Middle School, Mokokchung, where I teach. In 2003 I sat for the Undegraduate Teacher examination. I was still in college at that time pursuing my B.A. at the Fazl Ali College. I cleared the written test comfortably. I appeared the interview at ease.

Within a few days following the interview, people all over Nagaland started getting appointment letters for teaching jobs, the very teaching posts for which I spent days and nights preparing. Sold out? To cut the story short, case filed and won in 2012. So, the REAL candidates got the results after 7 years.

Imkong.L.Imchen was the education minister at that time. Logically he is responsible for the oppression of the students of Salangtem GMS and others across the length and breadth of Nagaland because of the teaching done by the sold out heartless 'teachers' (Heartless because they flashed their thousands to buy the jobs). My Koridang needs to wake up. Besides, my Koridang cannot afford the cost incurred in the process. Those falling into the genre of Imkong.L.Imchen needs a break from Naga society.

The old folks' time's up. Need not revere or respect them, in a way. At least I know then truth now. The Naga tradition of respecting elders is passé when ethical and moral standards determine the stakes involved in building society. Boils as thick as hails, cancers as rapid as wildfire, adultery as rabid as dengue fever, deaths as untimely as possible and divorce as rampant as second-hand clothes be the plagues that visit such individuals and families and beyond. Nagaland can be cleaner :)

“Leaders who do not act dialogically, but insist on imposing their decisions, do not organize the people--they manipulate them. They do not liberate, nor are they liberated: they oppress.”
― Paulo Freire
