In a resounding triumph, The Nagaland Chamber Choir (TNCC) representing India in the 12th World Choir Games achieved extraordinary feat by clinching not only one but two gold medals at the highly acclaimed competition which culminated today in Gangneung, South Korea.
The world's biggest international choir competition brought together the finest choirs from across the globe, vying for recognition and honour.
The event offers two classes of competition – the champions competition and the open competition, which allow choirs the opportunity to participate at the appropriate level.
TNCC competed in the champions category in Mixed Chamber Choir and Contemporary Choral Music respectively and won gold medals in both.
In a telephonic conversation with The Morung Express on the sidelines of the award ceremony, Dr Limawati Pongen, Coordinator TNCC giving “all glory and honour to God” said the whole event was a thrilling experience for the team. “We learned a lot in the process,” he added and acknowledged the people back home and the country for their continued support leading up to the finale.
The accolades garnered by the choir not only highlight their remarkable talent but also shed light on the rich musical traditions that flourish within the state. The brilliant 30-member choir was led by the choral conductor, Hito Kiho.
TNCC was the lone choir from India to qualify and compete in the international choir festival which is organised by Interkultur Foundation bienially. Based on the Olympic ideals, it aims to peacefully unify people and nations across borders through song in a fair competition. TNCC will be arriving in Dimapur on July 19.
