Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that there should be convergence of government departments and community for developmental activities in the state.

The basic requirement for any human being is education, health care and connectivity to access the other parts of the world, he said while speaking at the virtual launching programme of “The People’s Bridge” here at Hotel Vivor.

Congratulating all those involved in the construction of the bridge and road, he prayed that the Bridge would bring harmony, stability and prosperity.

He also assured to extend all support to the initiative of Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS) for the expansion and adoption of the road.

Rio stressed on the strength of the community saying that unless the community takes ownership and participates it is not possible to have proper development.

He said understanding the strength of the community, the Nagaland government initiated the good policies like communitization on healthcare system, education and power.

But, he lamented that it all remained on paper and yet to be implemented fully.

Appreciating the community participation in construction of “The People’s Bridge,” Rio said “You have taught a lesson and it should be emulated in other areas and districts.”

Earlier, Principal Secretary for Roads & Bridges Menukhol John talked on “Convergence as an approach for infrastructure development” while Brig Shalendra Katariya, COO talked on “The Nagaland Initiative- The Hans Foundation.”

A short clip on School Education Initiative of ECS was given by Yingphe Konyak on the Wanching Model School and Toshila on Samagra projects; “Sochum and the Mobile Teaching Unit.”

The programme was chaired by Rev Chingmak Chang while Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, General Secretary, Nagaland Baptist Church Council pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
