Time for mass reckoning: NSCN (K)

DIMAPUR, JUNE 7 (MExN): Pointing out the rationale of an armed confrontation in the present context, the NSCN (K) in a joint statement issued by Isak, Spokesman Naga Army and Brig Niki Sumi Commander Operation Blueland has stated that such an action was necessitated “so that inimical forces are kept at bay and conducive environment created for the mass to ventilate its concern and participate freely in the process of Nation building without fear and prejudice”.

Justifying that the current mission of its Naga Army was in tune with the “demand of the people”, the NSCN (K) pointed out that this was “neither offensive nor directed at any particular individual or group but solely with an objective to usher in democratic participation of every Naga citizen in deciding the destiny of our people and Nation”.

“At this hour of trial and dilemma once again we make an earnest appeal to every Naga to share and shoulder responsibilities of our unachieved goal for it is nobody’s but everybody’s business”, it stated.

While expressing regret over “certain hardships in various forms” that might have been inflicted on innocent citizens “while confronting adverse elements”, the joint statement reassured of its commitment to “our people and anticipate vibrant participation of every section of Naga society without any reservation”.

In retrospection, the NSCN (K) admitted to a “major setback in Naga’s struggle” and attributed this to “internal dissensions within the framework of National Workers” as also “external forces” that “played its share of havoc”.

“Such were circumstances that prompted creation of statehood of Nagaland, signing of infamous Shillong accord, split of NSCN and currently- controversial peace talks between GOI and IM group”, the joint communiqué stated while further adding that since inception of major divisions within the Naga struggling groups, intermittent factional warfare for superiority, recognition and dominion had been the sole ambition.

“Military offensives and armed campaigns throughout Naga inhabited territories within rival groups remain perpetual and exceedingly taxing in terms of human lives, economy, and property and quite disastrously self-defeating politically”.

Alleging that a handful of “elitists like criminals in guise of freedom fighters rampages the Naga polity, true workers and right thinking citizens remain submerged by what is popularly known as “Factional Psychosis”, the NSCN (K) stated while adding that physical harassment, psychological threat, mental trauma, tactical extermination of soft targets and threat to freedom of speech and expression is vividly and arrogantly enforced throughout Nagaland. “Prosecution or execution of any national related matters without public trial, agendas of peace talks devoid of transparency and accountability towards the people, harnessing of resources at gunpoint, extraction of peoples mandate through manipulation and other devious violent means are but fallacies and sheer repudiation to our noble cause”, it stated.

Referring to the peace talks currently underway, the NSCN (K) termed it as “political monopoly” and stated that this had brought about “complete despotism and entire populace are made to watch in sinister silence and mute terror despite awareness of impending national doom”. It went on to add that the decision making apparatus was an exclusive club quite inaccessible and designed to be enjoyed by only few that qualifies to further promote the agendas of the master and his selected coteries. “Such is the command structure of certain so called National organ that they daringly continue to exploit the mass. This is being made possible and perpetuated due to several factor i.e. excess influence and interference of armed groups in public lobby through intimidation, threat and enticement of opinion leaders and public representatives with money, privileges etc. besides elimination of potential ideologues opposed to groups ideologies”.
