Nagaland PWD (Housing & Mechanical) Minister, Tongpang Ozukum inaugurated the ‘Furniture Godown’ of the Works & Housing Department here below PWD office on July 28.
The work order for this project was issued in 2006. In 2021, the DPR was revised to Rs 177.44 lakh with the initiative of Minister for Works & Housing.
Ozukum said the work was started last year after placing funds during his time and it was completed within a year. He thanked the dedicated efforts of the contractor and the department for completing the work.
“There are some projects which are continuing for more than 20 years,” he said and urged that it is time for the department to take a call “which project should continue and which project be discontinue.”
Further, the minister urged the department to explore and come up with certain innovative ideas instead of the conventional way of construction. We need to use new technology in housing construction, he said.
Later, Ozukum announced that Tamil Nadu government has allotted 1000 sqft land at free of cost for construction of Naga Patient House in Vellore.
Er Kahuli Sema, Engineer- in-Chief, NPWD also spoke at the function. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Er I Tiameren, Chief Engineer, NPWD (Housing) while Rev. Razouvizo Tetso, chairman, Advisory Board, Angami Christian Revival Church Council pronounced dedicatory prayer. Vote of thanks was proposed by Er Ketousielie Kengurusie, Executive Engineer, PWD (H), Estate Division.
In a technical report, Er Tiatemsu Ao, Superintending Engineer, PWD (H), Circle No.1 informed that the old furniture store was constructed in 1959.
DPR for construction of Furniture Godown at Rs. 47.37 lakh (SOR 2004) was prepared in 2006.
The work order was issued to M/S Vertex Construction in November 2006. Budget provision during 2006-7 was Rs. 1.00 lakh.
The DPR revised to Rs. 72.35 lakhs (SOR 2006). Budget provision till 2011-12 was Rs. 8. 50 lakhs.
Er. Tiatemsu informed that the actual project could not started, while only the steps leading to the store was constructed.
In 2021, the DPR was revised to Rs. 177.44 lakh (SOR 2016) with the initiative of minister for works and housing.
Budget provision of Rs. 20.00 lakh was earmarked in 2021-22.
He said that dismantling and construction started in June 2021 and the work was completed in May 2022. Budget provision (2022-23) was Rs. 148.94 lakh.
The completed RCC Godown (G+1) consist of two floors, 8 rooms and 3 toilets, one furniture recording room, one workshop, four rooms (SK Quarter), one SDO room and one furniture store room.
The Furniture Godown has dimensions of length- 93 feet and width- 22 feet. Plinth area of building- 2046 sqft and total floor area of the building at 6218 sqft.
