
TSEMINYU, JULY 21 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner, Tseminyu, Dr Zasekuolie Chusi, IAS, has imposed a ban on the slaughter/sale and import of pork and pigs from outside the district, and the entire district has been notified as a ‘Controlled Area’ until further notice/directive. This decision was made in view of the report of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Tseminyu that there have been cases of mortality in pigs within the district and in the neighboring districts of Kohima and Dimapur there is high mortality of pigs due to outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF). The ASF is a contagious disease in pigs with high mortality causing huge economic losses, therefore requires high vigilance and containment, under section 6(1) of the prevention and control of infection and contagious diseases in Animals Act 2009, the order stated.
