Dimapur, July 8 (MExN): To mark the occasion of Tuluni Festival students of Trinity Theological College, Akuvuto, Thahekhu organized a cultural programme with participation by students comprising of different tribes and communities including non-Nagas. Kashiho Sangtam, Block Development Officer, Niuland graced the programme as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Kashiho said that during the early days of Christianity among Naga people churches stood against cultural practices however with the advancement of time and society, it has become pertinent that traditional culture be preserved. He urged called upon the theology students to preserve rich cultural heritage of Nagas and at the same time show the true spirit of theologian through our culture. Students presented various cultural items to mark the occasion.
People of Nihokhu village also celebrated Tuluni with much pomp and gaiety. A colourful cultural programme was organized to mark the occasion. Ahoto Zhimomi, Executive Engineer, PWD (Housing), Tuensang Division was chief guest of the celebration. Delivering a speech Ahoto said Tuluni is a time to celebrate the joy of giving and sharing among the people whether rich or poor and also a time to reconcile with another and foster the spirit of brotherhood and unity.
David Zhimomi, chairman, Tuluni celebration Nihokhu proposed vote of thanks. Villagers presented folkdance and folksongs. Besides, various cultural competitions such as amikukula, ashi muza, akhetsu kuka, asumiche, awudo kumugho etc. were held among the villagers. Village elders were of the view that it is very important to organize such programmes during festivals to teach the younger generations the rich cultural heritage of Nagas which must be preserved for our own identity. Inaka Assumi, vice president, Naga Hoho graced the celebration programme at Nikhekhu village as chief guest wherein a cultural programme was also organized on the occasion.
