Two dead in 24-hour road mishaps

Kohima, July 15 (MExN): A Sub-Divisional Officer of the Tourism Department and an Arts student were killed in separate motor accidents in Dimapur and Kohima during the last 24 hours. One of the mishaps involved the former president of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, currently under treatment for injuries.
SDO of Tourism Keviho Sema was killed when the vehicle – reported to be a Mahindra Bolero (NL10-5759) – he was travelling in, veered off National Highway 29 and plunged onto the banks of Chathe River, about half a-kilometer from the Chumukedima police check gate. He was travelling from Kohima to Dimapur with his driver when they met with an accident, around 7:00-7:30 PM. His driver, unidentified, was also critically injured, police informed.
In another mishap yesterday, former NSF President Mutsikhoyo Yhobu met with a vehicular accident last night here in Kohima. A student of BA II of Modern College who was also traveling in the vehicle was killed in the mishap, reports said. The incident is reported to have taken place around 10.30 pm between SKV Petrol Pump and the PWD junction in Kohima.
According to reports, one Choseta, a PS (personal secretary) to the Parliamentary Secretary of Social Welfare and Child & Women Development was also present in the ill fated vehicle. The student, a girl, has been identified as Vethivolii Tetso from Riinguzui village under Phek District. The Bolero bearing Registration no NL01C-9810 belonged to former NSF president, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu.
Speaking to The Morung Express at its office chamber, DSP of Traffic Melite Kapfo said as per the investigation, a truck was returning from Monkhola after picking laborers for unloading the construction materials adding that due to the heavy load technical failure must have occurred forcing them to hit the vehicle and smash the bolero from above.
While the victim was reported to have died on the spot, the former student leader miraculously escaped unhurt and the personal secretary was said to have received minor injuries. He also disclosed that the truck driver, identified as Pudi Bahadur, around 45 years old from the Nepali community showed no sign of drunkenness. Rather both the truck’s men surrendered this morning, Traffic police said.
