Longleng, September 8 (MExN): The Phom Students' Conference (PSC) has written to the Department of Power, Nagaland drawing attention to the irregularity of power supply and connectivity in the district.

A press release in this regard was issued by the PSC President A Mane Phom and Assistant General Secretary Amos Phom on September 8, demanding that the power division in the district be upgraded to Executive Engineer, Power, Longleng.

Even though Longleng became a full-fledged district in 2004, the department of Power in the district is still under the Executive Engineer, Power, Changtongya Sub-Division, it said.

“Longleng as a district headquarter needs an uninterrupted power supply for functioning of the government offices and businesses and a proper Head of Department as required in a district headquarter, but sadly this is not the case as we are not provided with all the requirements for a district headquarter,” the release stated.

As such, the organization demanded that the concerned department upgrade the existing Sub-Divisional Officer, Power, Longleng district, to the post of Executive Engineer and construct proper office infrastructure for the SDO and Executive Engineer.

Further, the PSC also pointed out that the department has only one pool vehicle for the entire district which has broken down and is now abandoned on the roadside for over a month. Stating that no replacement pool vehicle has been provided so far, the PSC questioned the department as to how it would fix electricity problems at far off places without a pool vehicle. It urged the department to immediately provide pool vehicle to the district as the power department at Longleng is facing huge difficulties to perform their duties efficiently.

“The conference cautions the concerned department that if the said genuine demand of the people of Longleng district is not fulfilled at the earliest then we would be compelled to take extreme measures, even up to the extent of discontinuing the revenue payment to the department,” the PSC asserted.
