WASU disagrees with ‘unjust’ rationalisation notification

Naginimora, February 16 (MExN): The Wakching Area Students’ Union (WASU) has expressed strong "disagreement” and “disappointment” over what it described as an “unjust” notification issued by the Department of School Education (DoSE) on February 10 concerning the rationalisation of teachers.

According to WASU, as the Wakching area has been facing a severe shortage of teachers in schools, it had hoped that the crisis would be addressed through new appointments or postings.

Instead, the recent notification has taken an entirely opposite direction, with more than 22 teachers transferred or posted elsewhere without any relievers, further exacerbating the situation, the union pointed out.

“This decision is highly unjust and detrimental to the education of students in our region,” it said.

The Wakching area already faces challenges due to a lack of sufficient teaching staff, and such actions only worsen the existing academic difficulties, it added.

Accordingly, WASU urged the concerned department to reconsider the decision and take immediate corrective measures by ensuring proper replacement teachers are assigned.

Further asserting that education is a fundamental right and that depriving students of adequate teaching personnel is unacceptable, the union stated that it will not release even a single teacher without a replacement.

It also urged all transferred teachers not to accept a ‘release order’ from the District Education Office (DEO) unless the department notifies a reliever for the concerned school or institution.

WASU affirmed that it will continue to voice its concerns and take necessary steps to safeguard the academic future of the students.

It also extended its solidarity with the recent ultimatum served by the Konyak Students’ Union to the DoSE, giving the department five days to cancel the rationalisation order.
