WC NNPGs condemns Tizit killing

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 5 (MExN): The WC, NNPGs today condemned the killing of Temzei Konyak, Kilonser of NSCN/GPRN (Akato) on July 31 at Lapalampong Village in Tizit.

A press release from the media cell of the WC, NNPGs said that the incident has “come as a rude shock to the people of Nagaland and all peace-loving Nagas.”

“As per media reports, the eight-member team had a meeting with Konyak Union (KU), for peace initiatives on July 30. If a meeting with KU was sought and granted, was it an unforgivable crime deserving extreme torture and death penalty?” the WC, NNPGS questioned.

It further stated that meeting ENPO, KU or any CSO is not the exclusive right of one group. “Nagas have never been silenced by guns or tortures.  What a blot on the Common journey of Nagas! The commander and men responsible for this inhuman abuse and murder must be penalised. Whether Nagaland native or from outside, this is another visible streak of mercilessness that Nagas must stand up against,” it stated.

The WC said that this incident is “another reminder to the Naga people of the reckless killings in the 80s and 90s.”

It further noted that all Naga political groups are aware of the ENPO resolution dated December 18, 2008 against factional killings, and said that the July 31 killing serves as a reminder to all Nagas that “there will always be elements detrimental to peace.” “The latest torture and murder of an unarmed man is a setback to the healing process strongly advocated by all tribes and apex CSOs,” it added.

The WC meanwhile paid respect to the departed soul and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
