WC, NNPGs vows to identify drug kingpins & middlemen ‘at all cost’

Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) today pledged to identify drug kingpins and middlemen who are "remorselessly” destroying Naga society “at all costs.”

"The WC, NNPGs, the conglomerate of Seven Naga political groups, has unanimously endorsed a strong measure to deal with those remorselessly destroying Naga society," asserted a press statement received here.

"Those national workers indulging in drug use or peddling will be dealt with stringently," added the release from the Media Cell, WC, NNPGs.

Elaborating on the decision, the WC, NNPGs said that 'extreme crimes demand an equal response.' Presently, in Nagaland and other Naga areas, every parent's nightmare is palpable, and thousands are losing their children to drug addiction, it maintained, comparing the situation to the "opiated generation" in the 80s.

Citing reports, the WC, NNPGs also maintained that a huge number of adolescent school and college-going students are into "sunflower drug addiction," and the drug is available on every street corner and alley in Dimapur city and all towns in Nagaland.

"The WC, NNPGs are deeply disturbed," it asserted, contending that a drowsy generation cannot understand the past, grasp the present, and would always lack the desire and commitment to stand and defend Nagaland against "political rhetoric, economic exploitation, social injustice, suppression, and destruction of inherent traditions and customs."

It further claimed that at this "most dangerous hour," Nagaland's indigenous attributes, which form the nucleus of Naga historical and political identity, are deliberately being targeted to ensure "demographic destruction."

The attack from within through destructive policies is most dangerous, it added.

Accordingly, the WC, NNPGs wondered whether there are "drug lords sitting comfortably somewhere nearby under the guise of Naga Nationalism and deliberately pushing in sunflower drugs into Nagaland."

“Is there a policy to incapacitate and destroy the youth of Nagaland?” To this end, it conveyed its strong belief that a "nefarious network is at work" and unanimously endorsed a strong measure to deal with the issue.

The WC, NNPGs also extended appreciation to Nagaland Police Chief Rupin Sharma and subordinate commanders for trying their best to control the drug menace.

"The idea must be to dig and cut the roots, then branches instead of plucking the leaves," it opined. The WC, NNPGs also appealed all Tribal Hohos, Apex civil societies, and the general public for support and cooperation on the uphill task at hand.
